As the world responds to the coronavirus, NSPE would like to express its concern for our members, staff, and all who are affected by this pandemic.

Licensed professional engineers are obligated to hold the public health, safety, and welfare above all other considerations. This principle is fundamental to the mission of NSPE and our NICET certification division.

Accordingly, we continue to monitor international, national, state, and local developments arising from the outbreak. To protect our employees, members, and other customers, we are taking all appropriate steps, consistent with the guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while maintaining the maximum level of operations in the performance of our services.

In response, NSPE emphasizes the following:

  • All nonessential NSPE meetings have been postponed or adapted for virtual meetings.
  • Webinars continue and the 2020 Professional Engineers Conference (August 12–16 in Philadelphia) remains on schedule at this time.
  • State society partners are monitoring events and recommendations in their communities and making decisions based on that information. Many state and local meetings have already been canceled or postponed.
  • Members can continue collaboration through our Communities forums.

Professional engineers play a vital role in society, but often behind the scenes. They design, construct, and maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps the US moving—water, power, transportation, to name just a few. And they keep us healthy through their work in areas like medical facilities, agriculture, and biomedical engineering. We extend our gratitude for their technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and ethical commitment.

NSPE staff and volunteer leaders will continue working daily to assess the fast-changing situation and will move quickly to adjust our policies as appropriate.
