Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) Requirements

Missouri professional engineers are required to complete 30 professional development hours biennially with a required completion date of December 31 each year.

The Missouri PE Board does not pre-approve PE continuing education providers or specific PE PDH courses. Each professional engineer must determine whether an activity meets the Board’s requirements.

1. Personal Development

Missouri defines the purpose of its continuing education requirement as “to reinforce the need for lifelong learning in order to stay current with changing technology, equipment, procedures, processes, tools and established standards.” Qualifying activities must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve, or expand the skills and knowledge relevant to the professional engineer's field of practice. The PE licensee is given flexibility in selecting among a broad range of subjects that are intended to strengthen or maintain competency in technical, managerial (business), or ethical fields.

The Missouri PE board specifically lists internet-based courses as acceptable providing a quiz is used to show evidence of achievement.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.
