Missouri Professional Engineer License Renewal: Continuing Education Requirements

In Missouri, professional engineers must renew their PE license every two years. To maintain their licensure, engineers are required to complete 30 Professional Development Hours (PDH) within each renewal period. Here are the key details:

Continuing Education Requirements

  • Total Hours: Missouri Professional Engineers must complete 30 PDH every two years.
  • Carryover: Up to 15 PDH can be carried over to the next renewal period if they exceed the required 30 hours.
  • Types of Activities: PE Continuing Education PDH can be earned through various activities, including online courses, technical conferences, seminars, college courses, and live webinars. The Missouri Board does not pre-approve specific courses or providers, so professional engineers must ensure the content is relevant to their field.

Renewal Dates

  • Biennial Renewal: Missouri Professional Engineer Licenses must be renewed by December 31st of every even-numbered year. Professional Engineers licensed in odd-numbered years must renew by December 31st of every odd-numbered year.

Record Keeping and Audits

  • Self-Evaluation: Professional Engineers are responsible for evaluating the suitability of their PE continuing education activities.
  • Documentation: PE Licensees must maintain records of their PE continuing education PDH activities in case of an audit by the Missouri Board.

Exemptions

  • Special Circumstances: Missouri Professional Engineers who are disabled or deployed military service members may be exempt from the continuing education requirements.

By adhering to these requirements, Missouri professional engineers remain up-to-date with industry standards and continue to stay in compliance with Missouri PE Board license renewal requirements.
