This Professional Land Surveyor Ethics course satisfies the continuing education requirement for all states. This PLS continuing education ethics course is designed as an online distance learning interactive course that enables professional land surveyors to renew the emphasis that his or her professional license status gives recognition to the expert knowledge attained by the surveyor and grants privilege to practice the profession of surveying.

The licensed surveyor will learn the definition of ethics and origin of the term, and the link between ethics and professionalism.  The different, and at times conflicting, areas of ethical obligation for land surveyors will be reviewed.  This online PDH course will also examine ethical areas unique to land surveyors, such as ethics in the map review process and ethical considerations when setting property corner monuments as part of a boundary survey.

Course Objectives

The primary objective of this online PDH ethics course is to familiarize the professional land surveyor with the standards of professional behavior and the highest principals of ethical conduct as to make practical application of those principals by reviewing real case studies.

Upon successful completion of the CEU course, the professional land surveyor will be trained in exhibiting the highest standards of honesty and integrity as required by the professional land surveyor’s license and profession.  In addition, the PLS will:

  • Understand the relationship between ethics and professionalism
  • Identify the ethical obligations for a land surveyor
  • Understand how it is important for professional land surveyors to say ‘no’, even to clients and supervisors
  • Understand how the public, other land surveyors, and the US legal system views monument placement.
